September 10, 2009My sukat na 1.4 milyong ektar,matatagpuan sa Sierra Madre ang 40 porsyento ng malulusog na kagubatan sa pilipnas.Naririto rin ang 400 uri ng mga hakop tulad na Agila ang pilipinas,Golden Crowned Flying Fox,Philipine Eagle-Owl,Isabela Oriole, Green sea Turtle, Longgerhead Turtle, Hawksibill Turtle, at dugong.Ito rin ang tahanan para sa halos 60 porsyento ng lahat ng mga uri ng halaman sa pilipinas.
Itnakda ng pamahalaan ang 287,861 ektarya ng Sierra Madre bilang Northern Sierra Madrre Natural Park (NSMNP) noong 2001 sa bisa ng Republic act 9125.Ito ang pinakamalaking pinakamayamang lugar sa pilipinas at ang pinakamayamang pagdating sa dami ng mga hayop at halaman.Dahil dito,ipinagbabawal ang pagputol ng mga puno sa loob nito nang walang pahintulot ng pamahalaan.www.forestpolicyresearch.org; inquirer.net; unesco.org;philstar.com;biodiversityscience;wikipedia.org
